NYC Peruvian Restaurant Group Closes Its First Groundbreaking Restaurant
"the roast whole chicken, with smoke in its meat and blackened chile rub on its skin, isn't so much an alteration of the Peruvian standard as an intensification,"
"enjoy meeting regularly with this chicken."
"After lots of conversations, deep breaths, and a whole lot of feelings, we've made the tough call to close Cactus Wren,"
"Restauranting is difficult, y'all."
Llama Inn in Williamsburg will close on Sunday, December 20 after ten years at 50 Withers Street. Chef Erik Ramirez, Juan Correa, and the team previously closed Llama San this summer and ran Llamita from 2018 to 2020. Llama Inn opened in 2015 and earned acclaim for Peruvian fare; the roast whole chicken was praised for smoke in its meat and a blackened chile rub and described as an intensification of the Peruvian standard. Ramirez was a 2023 James Beard Outstanding Chef finalist. Llama Inn outposts in London and Madrid remain open. Papa San in Hudson Yards opened in February and remains open. Lower East Side restaurant Cactus Wren will close November 30; founders Samuel Clonts and Raymond Trinh served regional Southwestern cuisine with French techniques, seafood, and wood-fired dishes.
