A giant redwood tree fell across Raymond's Bakery and Elim Grove Cottages in Cazadero, causing major damage to the outdoor eating area, cracked concrete, and the bakery's foundation, walls and floor. Owner Mark Weiss responded by focusing immediately on repairs and expressed eagerness to tackle the work as a winter project. Weiss purchased the property nearly 24 years ago, restored five cottages that were repurposed 1906 earthquake shacks, opened the bakery first and the cottages later, and cultivated a strong community-oriented culture on the site. Community involvement has been a meaningful part of recovery and resilience efforts.
