Issa Rae's 'An Evening with Issa Rae' tour brought her to Houston, where she engaged with fans and celebrated her achievements. The event highlighted her successful endeavors in film, including her new comedy 'One of Them Days,' while showcasing her ventures in the food and beverage industry, such as partnering with Hilltop coffee and launching her Prosecco line, Viarae. Rae shared her connection to Houston's culture, comparing it to Los Angeles, and expressed her love for its diverse food scene, specifically noting her Senegalese heritage and dining at local restaurants.
"I've always said if I wasn't doing what I'm doing now, I'd want to be a waitress or a bartender," she said at the Houston event.
Rae, who is of Senegalese descent, says one of her first food stops in Houston was Dakar Street Food, a Senegalese restaurant tucked away.
Both are sprawling cities with 'a laidback, cool, loving vibe,' an emphasis on hospitality, and a love of Mexican food.
(Rae) recently opened the jazzy Los Angeles restaurant and lounge Somerville in November - her ode to Black Los Angeles's residents.
