IndyGo expanded Food in Transit to a year-round effort providing free grocery staples and fresh produce at the centrally located Julia M. Carson Transit Center. The December pilot served more than 300 people and distributed over 1,000 pounds of food. Distributions will occur every second and fourth Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., making food access part of regular commuting routes. The effort partners with community organizations, including Second Helpings, to distribute food efficiently and equitably and to reduce access barriers. The program is open to the public with no registration required and riders can use IndyGo's trip planner to attend.
