At Modern Farmer, we believe that food is a right. More specifically, access to nutritious, locally-grown food, is a right. Unfortunately, not everyone has access (or enough access) to food.
We can rise, as a community, and demand equal access to food. We can push for the right to grow food, and support our local food producers. And change can happen, from the smallest community garden to city and county-wide initiatives.
There are farms on top of hospitals in Boston, vacant lots that became urban gardens in Philadelphia, and a community feeding itself alongside the polar bears in northern Manitoba.
Tell us in the comments about local food justice organizations in your area.
