"Ben & Jerry's has made attention to social and political issues a key part of its values. After the murder of George Floyd in 2020, for example, the brand released a statement declaring: "We must dismantle white supremacy." Cohen and Greenfield have either been behind or supported many of the stances that the brand has taken."
Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield founded Ben & Jerry's nearly fifty years ago, starting from a gas station in Vermont and growing to global distribution. Greenfield and Cohen are childhood friends from Long Island, New York. Jerry Greenfield resigned from the company, citing that Unilever, the parent company, is stifling the brand's political and social mission. Ben & Jerry's places emphasis on social and political issues as core values, including a 2020 statement after George Floyd's murder declaring, "We must dismantle white supremacy."
