A charity in Norfolk, Heart 2 Heart, is refurbishing a phone box to install its 400th defibrillator. Volunteers dedicated hours to clean the box, only to find it covered with advertisements shortly after. A spokesperson from Greggs, whose advertisement was placed, expressed they did not intend this to happen. Despite the box being clearly marked as owned by Heart 2 Heart, the advertisement was mistakenly placed by a third party. Greggs has since offered compensation following media reports of the incident.
Heart 2 Heart Norfolk aims to install easily accessible defibrillators across Norfolk, and disused phone boxes are 'ideal' places for them.
Volunteers had worked until 22:00 BST one evening, spending about eight hours cleaning six layers of glue from the glass panels.
There is a sign on the phone box saying it is owned by the charity and another sign inside, outlining that it is no longer in service or owned by BT.
Since the incident was raised by Breakfast on BBC Radio Norfolk, Greggs has been in contact with Ms Biggs and has offered 250 compensation.
