Anthony Bourdain Tried Hot Dogs In Denver, But They Weren't Your Average Franks - Tasting Table
""checkered, even tortured relationship""
""I'm tasting a lot of sausage here, but I want to finish them all,""
""making Denver a wonderful place""
Anthony Bourdain returned to Denver in 2009 with low expectations after a previous book tour had left him wandering the city center hungry. Owner Jim Pittenger, a former repo man operating Biker Jim's hot dog cart, served gourmet sausages made from exotic meats topped with cream cheese and caramelized onions. Bourdain sampled four dogs: an elk jalapeño cheddar, a wild boar with apricots and cranberries, an Alaskan reindeer sausage, and a rattlesnake pheasant bratwurst. He praised the flavors, repeatedly requested more, and called the reindeer, elk, and boar especially impressive. Local recommendations repeatedly mentioned Pittenger, whom Bourdain thanked for making Denver a wonderful place and promised to return.
