Acclaimed Manhattan Thai Spot Has Opened an All-Day Cafe With a Speakeasy

"While the Manhattan original that opened in the East Village in 2020 is known for its Thai noodles, the new Queens outpost, also from chef Chidensee Wattanawongwat, Kitiya Mokkarrat, and Supatta Banklouy, offers a larger space with multiple dining areas and an expanded roster of dishes like Dungeness crab curry and Yaowarat-style five-spice roasted duck. The trio is also behind Sappe as well as the newly opened Unglo with Chalong's Nate Limwong."

"Hidden behind the Red Zone is a restaurant-within-a-restaurant, the Sato Room, which by day, is Sato tea bar, serving Vietnamese coffee, premium loose teas, as well as hot Thai tea with a poached egg on the site. Daytime light bites include bao and dumplings. Come evening the space shifts to small plates and drinks. The feel is a vintage Chinese coffee shop with retro posters and handmade paper lanterns lining the walls."

Time Out Market in Union Square officially opens at Zero Irving (124 East 14th Street, at Irving Place), on Friday, September 26, at 10 a.m.. Stalls include chef Kwame Onwuachi's Patty Palace stand; Unapologetic Foods' kebab restaurant Kebabwala; a burger stand by Bushwick bar food spot Lori Jayne; a new location of Taqueria El Chato; Fornino pizza, and more. A hidden Sato Room operates as a daytime tea bar with light bites and transitions to evening small plates and drinks. Separately, Time Out Market in Union Square opens at Zero Irving on September 26 with multiple stalls, 300 seats, and giveaways for early arrivals.
