Turbo Pizza operates in Bushwick as a dive bar offering Detroit-style pizza alongside wings and salads. Two brothers partnered with their best friend and a well-known chef to open the venue. The pizza emphasizes a distinctive dough and cheese blend that defines the Detroit-style approach. The establishment aims to function as a welcoming neighborhood "third room" where locals can gather. The owners prioritize a friendly, communal atmosphere and a menu that pairs the specific crust and cheese profile with bar staples to appeal to neighborhood patrons.
BUSHWICK -- We all know New York pizza is impossible to beat, but two brothers joined with their best friend, along with a well-known chef to bring a taste of Detroit-style pizza to Bushwick. Turbo Pizza is a familiar dive bar that serves Detroit-style pizza, wings and salads to the Bushwick neighborhood. They discuss what makes their pizza unique, including the dough and cheese blend.
"I had the sort of idea for this place and I wanted to work with one of my closest friends and my brother. And I was like, we don't have to try to sell pizza in Bushwick. It's one of my favorite styles of pizza and I kind of wanted to just be at a bar that is like with all my friends every day," said Max Nelson, owner of Turbo Pizza.
