"Director Ben Gregor wanted his cast to interact with the fantastical surroundings as much as possible. And so, on their sound stage in Reading, Gadsdon found herself filming in a grove of marshmallow trees, surrounded by giant flying-saucer plants and Haribo strawberry beds. I did eat a few, she confides. The Land of Birthdays was just as fun she was filmed in those scenes in the middle of a giant cake, as rollerskating elves disco-danced by."
"Three children, forced to move to the country, discover an enchanted forest full of some of the weirdest characters in children's literature, from Saucepan Man, who goes about wearing saucepans, to Moonface whose face is well, you get the idea. Perhaps it's the sheer oddness that has prevented it being adapted for screen before."
"Simon Farnaby has written the script; the publishers and producers will hope the film can replicate the extreme success he had with Paddington. And a heavyweight cast includes Nicola Coughlan, Jennifer Saunders, Sim"
The Magic Faraway Tree film adaptation faithfully recreates the enchanted worlds from Enid Blyton's classic 1939-1946 series. Director Ben Gregor designed immersive sets where actors interact directly with fantastical surroundings, including marshmallow tree groves, giant cake sets, and magical plant environments. Young star Billie Gadsdon experienced filming in various magical lands, from the Land of Goodies with edible landscapes to the Land of Birthdays featuring rollerskating elves. The production involved extensive location shooting in Malta for night scenes lasting until 5am. Producer Pippa Harris pursued the film rights nearly two decades ago, with screenwriter Simon Farnaby adapting the script, drawing on his successful Paddington experience. The cast includes established actors like Nicola Coughlan and Jennifer Saunders.
