"A man fell asleep underneath an oak tree in Placerita Canyon, in what's now the Newhall area of Santa Clarita. As he slept, he dreamed of finding gold. When Francisco López awoke, he pulled up wild onions growing nearby and discovered gold clinging to their roots. The legend is real - or at least parts of it. We'll never know if López really dreamed of gold, but we know he found it and that it was the first recorded discovery of gold in the state."
"The 708-acre property, a little over 20 miles north of Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, has been a Disney-owned filming location since the 1950s. It has appeared in countless productions over the years, from "The Mickey Mouse Club" to "Wandavision." Before the Disney die-hards get too excited, know this: Golden Oak is very much not open to the public. One look at the foreboding "no trespassing" signs will tell you as much."
Francisco López discovered gold under an oak in Placerita Canyon on March 9, 1842, marking California's first recorded gold find, predating Sutter's Mill by six years. The Oak of the Golden Dream is a state historical landmark adjacent to Golden Oak Ranch. Golden Oak Ranch is a 708-acre Disney-owned movie ranch north of Burbank used for filming since the 1950s and featured in many productions. The ranch is private and not open to the public, with prominent no-trespassing signs. Disney intentionally restricts access to prevent large numbers of fans from attempting entry.
