Stephen Colbert is writing a new Lord of the Rings movie
"The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past is actually set 14 years after the events of Return of the King, and will see Sam, Merry and Pippin retrace the first steps of their famous adventure."
"Colbert is working with his son Peter as well as screenwriter Philippa Boyens to adapt some early chapters of Fellowship of the Ring that never made it into Jackson's 2001 film."
"The new film is inspired specifically by Fellowship chapters III ('Three is Company') through VIII ('Fog On The Barrow-Downs'), and will also feature Sam's daughter Elanor making a huge discovery."
The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past is in development, adapting chapters from Fellowship of the Ring that were not included in Peter Jackson's films. Co-written by Stephen Colbert and his son, along with Philippa Boyens, the film is set 14 years after Return of the King. It will follow Sam, Merry, and Pippin as they retrace their adventure, with Sam's daughter Elanor embarking on her own quest. The project has been in development for several years and has received support from Peter Jackson.
