Rob Reiner and his wife Michele were killed on December 14 in an apparent homicide. Friends Larry David and Billy Crystal were seen at Reiner's home after the deaths, with Crystal appearing near tears. Reiner began his career as an actor on the sitcom All in the Family, created by Norman Lear, who often called Reiner a son and praised his commitment to art, activism, philanthropy, and family. Kathy Bates said she loved Reiner, called him brilliant and kind, and credited him with changing her life. Reiner supported Democratic causes and President Obama's campaigns, and colleagues including Eric Idle and Ben Stiller expressed public mourning.
