"Theater you can't do that, and yeah, they pay a lot of money. But you can't tape it. There is no cell phone. You own the audience for the duration of the play every night. It's a great night out. It's worth it for them. That's fucking exciting!"
Quentin Tarantino's next project is The Popinjay Cavalier, a swashbuckling stage play set in 1830s Europe. Produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, the play is described as a rambunctious comedy of deception and disguise inspired by classic swashbuckling epics like The Mark of Zorro and The Three Musketeers. The production will premiere on London's West End in early 2027 at an unannounced theater. Tarantino previously expressed his desire to work in theater to escape filmmaking, citing audience inattentiveness in cinema. He emphasized theater's unique advantage: the captive, undistracted audience without cell phones or recording devices creates an engaging live experience.
