On Location: 'Dune: Part Two' takes us from Italian cemeteries to Jordanian deserts
Briefly

In Dune: Part Two, viewers revisit Arrakis, but the film ventures deeper into its landscapes. Paul Atreides and Lady Jessica, played by Timothée Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson, discover untapped areas among the Fremen. The film extends beyond Arrakis, introducing contrasting planets, including an Edenic cemetery in Italy representing the Emperor's domain. French-Canadian production designer Patrice Vermette discusses filming diverse locations while still rooted in the previous film's settings in Jordan and Abu Dhabi, adding depth with inspirations like Carlo Scarpa's design for the Brion cemetery.
"This time around, however, we get to go deeper. As Paul Atreides and his mother, Lady Jessica, assimilate to life amongst the Indigenous Fremen people, they unlock access to parts of the planet previously unknown to outsiders."
"What’s new in the world of Dune? We did film in some of the same countries, because we were based out of Budapest and we went to Jordan and Abu Dhabi. But we went to different spots within each of these countries."
"I also went to a very special place to me in Italy. It is called the Brion cemetery and was designed by Carlo Scarpa. First of all, Carlos Scarpa is a huge inspiration for Dune and for me personally since the '90s."
