KPop Demon Hunters 2 Is Happening, Aiming For 2029
"What a week, huh? The sun is shining, democratic socialists are winning mayoral elections, and now we know that the KPop Demon Hunters sequel we all want is officially on the way at Netflix. Sadly, it's gonna take a few years for the teams at Sony and Netflix to put the sequel together, but if it's anywhere near as good as the first one, it'll be worth the wait."
"Beyond the 2029 window, we still don't know much about the sequel, though the crew has expressed interest in exploring the past of its trio of pop girl demon slayers, which is mostly glossed over in the first film. KPop Demon Hunters has plenty of unanswered questions a sequel could tackle, though, so I doubt the team will be hurting for ideas."
"The story is one thing, but the sequel will likely live or die based on whether or not the songs can match up to the original's banging soundtrack. If Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami , the voices behind Huntr/x's music, are returning, the music should be in good hands. While Netflix obviously wants the sequel to drive subscriptions, the company would be foolish not to give a new KPop Demon Hunters movie at least a limited theatrical run after doing it twice with the original ."
Netflix and Sony have finalized a deal for KPop Demon Hunters 2, currently planned to premiere in 2029. Animated musicals of this scope require several years of production, explaining the multi-year timeline. The gap between installments will be shorter than some recent animated sequel intervals. The creative team has expressed interest in exploring the backstories of the trio of pop girl demon slayers to address unanswered questions from the first film. Music is expected to play a decisive role, and the potential return of Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami could preserve the soundtrack's quality. A limited theatrical run remains likely.
