Jack Black credited Rob Reiner as a major creative influence during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, linking Reiner's This Is Spinal Tap to both Tenacious D and School of Rock. Black urged younger audiences to watch This Is Spinal Tap and called Reiner a genius whose films formed an incredible oeuvre. This Is Spinal Tap was released in 1984, a decade before Black formed Tenacious D with Kyle Gass, and Black later starred in 2003's School of Rock as a struggling musician turned substitute teacher. Rob Reiner and his wife Michele were slain at their Brentwood home, and their son Nick Reiner is held on suspicion of murder.
