I Will Be Reading Aubrey Plaza's Witch Book, Thank You
"She taught me from a very young age that life is a party and no matter what happens, we have to have fun and move forward, and so I think this book was inspired by that."
"At all times, there's like a giant ocean of awfulness that's like right there, and I can see it. Sometimes I just want to dive into it, and just like be in it. Then sometimes I just look at it, and sometimes I try to get away from it. But, it's always there."
"I think on both sides of my family, I have a lot of witchy women that raised me, so this is an homage to all the women in my life."
Luna is a young girl who aspires to be like Pheenie, an older, wiser witch who needs help throwing a successful Halloween party and agrees to teach Luna spells and potions in return. The book draws inspiration from Margie, who taught life is a party and the importance of moving forward, and acts as an homage to witchy women across both sides of the creator's family. The creator experienced the January suicide of partner Jeff Baena, described as an unimaginable tragedy, and has navigated public absence while speaking candidly about grief, using a gorge metaphor and crediting ancestral witches for support.
