""I'm from Northern California, and I was raised by a single mom," Arkapaw said. "She would always take me to movies or watch movies at home. In the back of my mind, she played a big role in giving me a love for movies and going to the theater.""
""It blew my mind open, being in this class talking about how films were shot and what it meant," Arkapaw said. "I wanted to know who was making these images.""
The IndieWire Honors Winter 2025 ceremony on December 4 will celebrate the creators and stars behind some of the year's best films. The event spotlights filmmakers, artisans, and performers and showcases their work with interviews and tributes ahead of the Los Angeles ceremony. Cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw produced striking imagery by combining 65mm IMAX and Super Panavision 70 for Sinners. Arkapaw grew up in Northern California, fostered a love of movies by a single mother, explored photography in high school, and originally planned to study art history. A required film class at Loyola Marymount University and a paper on Raging Bull and Broadway Danny Rose sparked her interest in cinematographers and image-making.
