Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie' Oscar snub just proves the movie's entire point
Briefly

But it's the omissions that people have been grumbling about. Not just that Margot Robbie, also the leading producer on the film, missed out on a Best Actress nod, a decision I can live with (she's good, but the performance in a way is not the point), but mainly that Greta Gerwig is nowhere to be found on the Best Director list. And this is, I think, pretty disgraceful, and also wearyingly unsurprising.
What's the case for it? Well, let's start with the big one. Barbie has, since it floated off the top of its Dreamhouse TM and landed on the grass of the international box office, grossed just shy of $1.45bn (€1.3bn). This makes it the highest-grossing film of last year, and, currently, the 14th highest-grossing film of all time.
