Gregg Araki to Debut 'Mysterious Skin' 4K Restoration at the Academy Museum
Briefly

Gregg Araki is unveiling the 4K restoration of 'Mysterious Skin', originally released in 2004, on September 19 at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Following the screening, Araki will engage in an onstage conversation with star Joseph Gordon-Levitt and novelist Scott Heim. The film follows two childhood friends, portrayed by Gordon-Levitt and Brady Corbet, who experience sexual abuse and its impact on their lives. The restoration is led by Strand Releasing and Antidote Films, with modern digital tools enhancing the original film's visual quality.
I'm SO excited about the glorious 4K restoration of 'Mysterious Skin.' When we made this little indie 20 years ago, we barely had the money to complete the movie.
I can't wait to utilize the incredible tools made possible with modern digital technology to polish and enhance the picture in a way that wasn't possible back in the early 2000s.
While I'm not going to drastically alter the film, which has such an amazingly dedicated and passionate following around the world, I am beyond thrilled to create a definitive, gorgeous, technically pristine version of 'Mysterious Skin'.
The coming-of-age drama stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Brady Corbet as childhood friends who were both sexually abused, which distorts their journeys into young adulthood.
