Authorities disclosed the causes of death for Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa. Hackman passed away from cardiovascular disease related to hypertension and atherosclerosis, with Alzheimer's being a contributing factor. In contrast, Arakawa's death was due to hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a rare illness linked to rodents that leads to severe respiratory issues. They died approximately a week apart, and it's noted that Hackman may not have been aware of his wife's passing due to his Alzheimer's condition.
Hackman died from "hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, with Alzheimer's disease as a significant contributory factor," said Dr. Heather Jarrell.
Arakawa died from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a rare disease carried by rodents, which is described by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
