Disney Hath Slain the Live-Action Robin Hood
"It's dead, sadly. I say sadly because I actually thought there was something really special (and original!) there. Some truly extraordinary music we had figured out for it."
"I keep daydreaming about doing it independently with different characters. Hey, that guy is well into the public domain. Just gotta make him some other, legally distinct animal."
Disney's planned live-action Robin Hood remake, announced in 2020 and set to be directed by Carlos López Estrada, has officially been cancelled after six years of development. The film was to be written by Kari Granlund, who wrote the 2019 Lady and the Tramp remake, with the producer of live-action Dumbo attached. López Estrada confirmed the project's death during a Reddit AMA, expressing disappointment about losing what he considered a special and original concept with extraordinary music. The lack of casting announcements over six years suggested the project was stalled. López Estrada indicated interest in developing an independent version with different characters, noting that Robin Hood exists in the public domain.
