"My amazing hero and my profound gift of a mother passed with me beside her this morning at her home in Ojai, California,"
"She was the greatest daughter, mother, grandmother, actress, artist and empathetic spirit that only dreams could have seemingly created. We were blessed to have her. She is flying with her angels now."
"As parents we do not tell our children all of our truths because we want to be loved and respected. So honestly, we lie a little,"
Diane Ladd died at age 89 on November 3 at her home in Ojai, California, with daughter Laura Dern beside her. She received three Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress for Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Wild at Heart, and Rambling Rose. Rambling Rose marked the first time a mother and daughter were nominated for Academy Awards for the same film. Born November 29, 1935, in Laurel, Mississippi, she pursued acting early, declined a college scholarship, and was a second cousin of Tennessee Williams. She married Bruce Dern in 1960, had two daughters (one of whom died at 18 months), and after a 2018 lung disease misdiagnosis she and Laura began daily walks and recorded conversations that were adapted in 2023.
