Death Stranding Live-Action Movie Will Feature Characters Who Weren't In The Games
"Kojima said he wanted Sarnoski to direct the movie after seeing the movies Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One, both of which Sarnoski directed and Kojima enjoyed. Kojima said he thought Sarnoski would be "perfect" to make the movie. As for Sarnoski, he said he was "terrified" by the pressure of working on such a beloved franchise, but ultimately agreed to sign on after meeting with Kojima and A24 and learning that he would be given "freedom" to make the movie he wanted to make."
"Sarnoski said his aim is to "capture the soul of the game and capture the themes of the game but tell a story that you haven't seen in that world and explore characters you haven't seen before." In addition to featuring characters not seen in the games, the Death Stranding movie will be "another story that you've never seen in this same universe," Sarnoski said. He said another goal is to tell a "human story" and appeal to both fans of the games and people who do not know them."
Hideo Kojima chose Michael Sarnoski to direct a live-action Death Stranding film for A24 after appreciating Sarnoski's Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One. Sarnoski initially felt terrified by the pressure but agreed after meetings that promised creative freedom. Sarnoski aims to capture the game's soul and themes while telling a new story in the same universe that explores previously unseen characters and focuses on a human story appealing to fans and newcomers. Kojima will act as a producer with limited involvement and trusts Sarnoski. No cast or release date has been announced; Norman Reedus is open to returning. An animated Death Stranding film is also planned.
