Michael Brook collaborated with influential filmmakers and musicians over four decades. He invented the Infinite Guitar, used by The Edge on U2's "With or Without You." He convinced Brian Eno to collaborate on his debut album Hybrid. Michael Mann recruited Brook for Heat after hearing his music; one track, "Ultramarine," appears during the Chinese restaurant surveillance scene. Brook worked with Hans Zimmer on Black Hawk Down and with Sean Penn on Into the Wild, earning a Golden Globe nomination but being deemed ineligible by the Academy.
