"Was there any better back-to-back streak of movies from a director than Rob Reiner in the 1980s? First Stand by Me then The Princess Bride and When Harry Met Sally, each film was uniquely wonderful, worthy or rewatching until the VHS tape went all streaky. To mark Reiner's untimely death this winter, the New Parkway Theater in Oakland is holding a day-long marathon of his works on Jan. 25."
"Starting Sunday morning, the event will feature some of his best-loved movies like Misery and This Is Spinal Tap and includes one that's not usually available for streaming, John Cusack road-trip comedy The Sure Thing. Tickets are available both for individual films or for the whole marathon (with special themed meals). Rob Reiner's movies were a common social background for all of us who were alive and aware in the '80s and early '90s, the organizers write."
Rob Reiner's 1980s films—including Stand by Me, The Princess Bride and When Harry Met Sally—formed a memorable back-to-back streak of beloved movies. The New Parkway Theater in Oakland will hold a day-long marathon of his films on Jan. 25, screening titles such as Misery, This Is Spinal Tap and the rarer John Cusack road-trip comedy The Sure Thing. Tickets are available for individual screenings or as a marathon pass, with an optional themed-meal upgrade. Several other Bay Area theaters will screen Reiner films in the weeks following. The marathon takes place 10 a.m.–late at 474 24th St., Oakland.
