Nike has launched a controversial sneaker model, the dotSWOOSH x Nike Air Force 1 Low Dirty Triple Whites, priced at $130. These shoes arrive looking deliberately dirty, designed with a "scratch-away texture" that cleans with wear. As part of their promotional narrative, Nike calls these shoes a "time machine", suggesting they tell the story of wear backwards. With features like stained collars and illustrated footprints on the interior, they celebrate the wearer's journey. The shoes will be available on the SNKRS app starting May 7, alongside other models that reveal deeper colors with use.
"The more you wear it, the cleaner and crispier it becomes. It's that simple," proclaimed an announcement on Dotswoosh, one of the company's social media channels.
"Smoked white AF1s. You see them everywhere. Dirty, creased, scuffed - each pair is a living canvas for the person wearing them. White AF1s are a time portal. We love that about them," the product description reads.
"The AF1 Low 'Dirty Triple White' is a time machine. Buckle in. Enjoy the ride."
"Even the inside is designed to appear stained - featuring an illustration of a footprint, 'celebrating grooves you put into your own shoes.'"
