Madison Avenue Couture (MAC), a luxury secondhand handbag business in New York, is experiencing significant growth despite the broader retail challenges posed by tariffs. The company specializes in high-demand brands like Hermès, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton, and is projected to grow by 30% this year, following a 35% increase last year. Business is primarily online, where sales are brisk—even on days when they are opening a new boutique, MAC’s team continues to reap substantial profits from remote sales. A shift towards lower-priced goods appears to be fueling this success.
"We make sure they are legit," chief executive Judy Taylor told The Post, when asked how visitors are verified. "This isn't a store where you can just come in and browse."
On April 29 alone, as Taylor and Clarbour were busy opening a new boutique in Palm Beach, Fla., Clarbour said her phone ka-chinged five times before noon - netting the company $265,000.
