"Harlem's Fashion Row, an agency dedicated to spotlighting designers of color, held a runway show, dinner and awards ceremony at Cipriani. The night also honored the pop star Usher, the magazine editor Nikki Ogunnaike and the stylist Jason Bolden, each of whom received awards. The event, in its 18th year, was a showcase for three designers of color who all originally hail from Haiti."
"The collection from LaTouche imagined what the designer Jimmy LaTouche's father's hometown, Jacmel, would have looked like without political strife. With Atelier Ndigo's collection, the designer Waina Chancy paid homage to Haiti's national flower, the choublak (or hibiscus). Daveed Baptiste's collection evoked the experience of immigrants traveling to and finding the United States, eventually becoming American citizens. Of course, the night would not have been complete without some killer street style."
