Osasuna has filed an appeal with the Spanish football federation, claiming that Barcelona should not have played defender Inigo Martinez in their recent LaLiga match. Martinez had withdrawn from Spain's squad due to a swollen knee but played the full match for Barcelona. Osasuna argues that FIFA regulations prevent players from participating in domestic matches within five days of leaving international duty for medical reasons. The match originally scheduled for earlier was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances, complicating the eligibility of players from both teams.
Osasuna insists that the participation of Inigo Martinez violated article 5 of Annex I of the FIFA regulations, stating players on medical leave cannot play club matches.
The club believes that due to Martinez's absence from the Spanish national team being a medical leave, he should not have participated in the LaLiga match.
