Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano emphasized that the team proactively managed Lionel Messi's fatigue to prevent injury. After a demanding schedule of three games in seven days, Messi was rested for matches against Houston Dynamo, Cavalier FC, and Charlotte FC. He returned briefly to play against Cavalier in the Concacaf Champions Cup. Mascherano explained that ongoing communication with the Argentina national team's medical staff reassures that Messi is fit to participate in future matches, including World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil.
"There were some voices saying that we were taking a risk, but we had it planned. The idea was that he play 30-35 minutes in Jamaica to have good feelings again."
"We tried to take away from the overload Messi had, so that it wouldn't go further than that. Luckily, we were able to control it and that it didn't turn into an injury or much more."
