Former Porto captain Costa dies aged 53

Jorge Costa, a former captain of FC Porto, died at 53 after suffering a cardiac arrest. He led Porto to Champions League victory in 2004 and earned 50 caps for Portugal. After a loan spell at Charlton in 2001-02, he retired from playing in 2006. He managed 16 clubs globally and became Porto's director of professional football last season. Costa made 324 appearances for Porto, winning 24 trophies, including the Champions League and eight Primeira Liga titles. He was recognized as the league's best player in 2000 with the Portuguese Golden Ball award.
