This week's Women's Champions League quarter-final features a familiar matchup between Barcelona and Wolfsburg, but with a twist; Ewa Pajor, who previously played for Wolfsburg, now dons Barcelona's colors. After a stellar nine-year stint in Germany, Pajor transitioned to Spain and has continued her scoring prowess, leading Liga F with 17 goals. In their past encounter during the 2023 final, Pajor scored early for Wolfsburg, but ultimately, Barcelona claimed victory. With four former Wolfsburg players at Barcelona, Pajor is looking forward to delivering against her old team, thriving alongside familiar teammates.
I was at Wolfsburg for a very long time, reflects Pajor with a smile as we meet at the Estadi Johan Cruyff. But when Barcelona came and said they want me to be part of this team, I just said wow, ok, this is Barcelona'.
It helps to play with the type of players who are here, it makes scoring goals easier, Pajor explains. Of course I played with Caro, Frido and Ingrid before so it was easier for me because I knew [those] players already.
In the 2023 final, Pajor also contributed an assist to put Wolfsburg 2-0 up, but it wasn't enough in the end, with Barcelona coming back to win 3-2.
The winning goal, incidentally, was scored by Fridolina Rolfo, a former Wolfsburg player. Pajor, in fact, is one of four former Wolfsburg players currently representing Barcelona this season.
