Madrid is reluctant to pay a transfer fee for Laporte, who has a significant salary at Al Nassr. His agent proposed forfeiting part of his contract, but the club rejected the offer.
Recent reports of an emergency meeting regarding Laporte's situation at Al Nassr were denied. Laporte, although interested in joining Madrid, is in no rush to leave Saudi Arabia.
Madrid is also interested in Alphonso Davies, whose contract with Bayern Munich is expiring, adding another potential defensive option for the team.
