Ryan Spann is excited about competing in the heavyweight division as he prepares for his fight with Waldo Cortes-Acosta at UFC Vegas 104. He prefers not to describe his move as 'reinvigorating' but acknowledges the benefits of not having to cut weight. After an 8-5 record in light heavyweight, he moved up following three consecutive losses. Although the decision to shift weight classes originated from his coach, Spann has embraced it and is enjoying the advantages, like eating better and training more effectively. He also notes that returning to the 205 division remains an option for him.
Spann: "I don’t have to cut weight. I’ve been still consistent... I ain't really get to do all the things that I should have been doing getting ready."
Spann explains: "We’re more consistent. I can eat better. I can eat more. My body wants to be big."
Spann shares how the move to heavyweight was his coach's idea: "Honestly it was coach that wanted to move up. Everything that happened after that was me just going with it."
On the flexibility of weight classes, Spann remarks: "If we want to go back we can go back, but right now we're where we're at."
