China dominates global battery production, supplying 75% of the market, with South Korea and Japan controlling much of the rest. The U.S., faced with looming tariffs, has an urgent opportunity to boost domestic battery manufacturing. However, current American manufacturers lag behind Asian counterparts in efficiency and cost. To catch up, the U.S. must stop relying on outdated manufacturing techniques and focus on innovation to improve battery safety, cost, and performance.
The only way to surpass these larger Asian competitors is to move on from outdated manufacturing methods and materials and focus on what defines American leadership: innovation.
It's clear China and other Asian countries today have the advantage when it comes to battery manufacturing. Their factories are larger, their supply chains are better developed, and their experience and know-how mean batteries can be produced cheaper and quicker.
