The DARE project, backed by European tech organizations, seeks to enhance the continent's technological sovereignty in high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI). With a budget of €240 million, this initiative will develop next-gen processors and an optimized software ecosystem over three years. Acknowledging Europe's current dependency on non-European technologies, the project aims to improve security and competitiveness through the RISC-V ecosystem, delivering three new chiplets: a Vector Accelerator for HPC, an AI Processing Unit, and a customizable general-purpose processor, all pivotal for future innovation.
I am proud to announce the launch of the DARE project which marks a significant milestone for European digital sovereignty. This ambitious initiative will drive innovation in both hardware and software technologies and leverage the full power of HPC and AI to develop secure, efficient, and European-led solutions for the future.
Through the scheme, the consortium aims to boost sovereignty and security by leveraging the open RISC-V ecosystem and develop three home-grown RISC-V-based chiplets, designed to work in combination.
DARE is daring to start from the top of the technological complexity pile and produce European-designed processor chips for supercomputers, paving the way for increased independence in high-performance computing.
