Stephanie Murra and Lorenza Vélez, MBA students at Harvard, identified a significant challenge among Hispanic immigrants in securing jobs due to language and cultural barriers. Recognizing an unprecedented labor shortage in low-skilled positions, they founded Ponte Labor, a Miami-based platform tailored to connect employers in hospitality and blue-collar sectors with work-authorized Hispanic immigrants. Understanding that many immigrants struggle with traditional job applications, Ponte Labor utilizes WhatsApp for communication and a more approachable platform aimed at enhancing job access for this community, thereby bridging the employment gap effectively.
Employers in hospitality, construction, retail, and other blue-collar industries really struggle to fill hourly roles while millions of work-authorized Hispanic immigrants struggle to find stable jobs due to language and cultural barriers.
These workers, many of whom don't speak English and are not really good with technology, are used to finding jobs through friends.
