MariaDB plans to develop a new database-as-a-service (DBaaS) grounded in open-source principles following its private equity buyout. After halting its previous service, SkySQL, where it faced significant challenges including an unsuccessful IPO, the company aims to strengthen ties with its open-source community to build a serverless system and enhance DBaaS offerings. CEO Rohit de Souza outlined plans to introduce these services within the year amid efforts to avoid past pitfalls of competing against major cloud providers.
