Lyft announced the acquisition of FREENOW, a mobility application providing taxi services across Europe for approximately €175 million in cash. The deal aims to capitalize on the shifting trends toward digital bookings in the taxi market, where currently half of all bookings occur offline. FREENOW operates in nine countries and over 150 cities, focusing on various transportation modes. The CEO of FREENOW sees this partnership as a means to strengthen their role in the European mobility sector, while maintaining current operations and leadership roles.
The deal is valued at approximately €175M in cash and is expected to close in the second half of 2025.
FREENOW aims to leverage the growing shift towards digital taxi bookings, as 50% of taxi bookings in Europe are still made offline.
