European semiconductor businesses are advocating for additional support from politicians to enhance research, development, materials, and design capabilities beyond the existing Chips Act. During a recent roundtable in the European Parliament, industry representatives emphasized the importance of a broader strategy, labeled as 'Chips Act 2.0,' to promote complete supply chain support. Following the discussions, a joint declaration was sent to EU leaders, appealing for extra R&D funding and incentives to bolster investment and competitiveness in the face of global market uncertainties, particularly from U.S. trade policies. Nine EU Member States are collaborating to strengthen Europe's semiconductor sector.
"Indeed that is what the semiconductor industry in Europe is calling for, to ensure that we can complement the existing Chips Act with measures that support the industry across the entire supply chain."
"Our sector sees three priorities," ESIA Vice-President Frédérique Le Grevès said.
