American Airlines will launch free in-flight WiFi for its loyalty program members starting January, becoming the last of the traditional Big Three U.S. airlines to do so. Sponsored by AT&T, the service will be available on around 90% of its fleet of nearly 1,000 planes. By 2025, American aims to equip over 500 regional jets with connectivity from Viasat and Intelsat. While other airlines like JetBlue and United Airlines have already embraced free WiFi, American's introduction reflects a competitive response to evolving in-flight service expectations in the industry.

American Airlines has become the latest airline to announce free in-flight WiFi, which will be available on roughly 90% of its fleet by the end of 2025.
