Thousands of Slovaks protest against Russian-style law targeting NGOs
Briefly

In Slovakia, large protests erupted against a draft law targeting NGOs, perceived to mimic repressive Russian legislation. Thousands rallied in Bratislava, echoing concerns about Prime Minister Robert Fico's shift towards Moscow. The proposed law would require NGOs to disclose extensive financial details while lacking clear definitions, stirring fears of harassment. Civic group Via Iuris criticized the bill for violating constitutional and EU principles, dubbing it a means to curb civic activity. Fico's administration promotes the law as a transparency measure, rejecting allegations of adopting 'Russian-style laws.'
This isn't transparency - it's surveillance, said Eva Kováčechová, a lawyer for Via Iuris.
Stop scaring Slovaks with illusions, we do not accept any Russian laws, stated Fico in a recent video.
