The governing center-left Social Democrats and the opposition center-right Christian Democratic Union have agreed to hold a new parliamentary election on February 23, 2025.
The agreement ended several days of wrangling over logistics, triggered by a vote of confidence in the Bundestag.
The president of Germany is expected to rubber-stamp the decision to hold the election, which will occur after the parliament is dissolved.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz initially proposed dates in late March or early April, citing the need for more time for legislation and election organization.
