Paetongtarn Shinawatra is the 37-year-old daughter of former PM Thaksin Shinawatra, making her Thailand's youngest-ever prime minister after gaining majority support in parliament.
The Pheu Thai party's coalition controls 314 out of 493 seats, with other parties backing Shinawatra after the sacking of Premier Srettha Thavisin for appointing a cabinet member with a criminal conviction.
Known as 'Ung Ing', Paetongtarn helped run her family's hotel business before transitioning to politics, where she increased her public presence during the 2023 elections.
Shinawatra urged for public patience regarding the government's unfulfilled policies, including a major cash handout program worth 500 billion baht, asserting that 'It has only been one year'.
