Nine people, including a baby, have died after their boat capsized while trying to cross the Mediterranean in stormy weather. The Italian coastguard rescued 22 survivors and recovered nine deceased individuals from the capsized boat, which happened about 30 miles off the island of Lampedusa.
The rescue operations were challenging due to adverse weather and sea conditions, with waves up to 2.5 meters. The survivors, suffering from hypothermia and shock, were taken to Lampedusa for aid. The nationalities of the passengers aboard the capsized boat remain unknown.
