How do the 2024 European elections work and when will we know the results?
Briefly

The European elections are in fact 27 national elections, each with its own set of rules, notably proportional representation. EU citizens vote in the country where they live, and voting age varies across countries.
All adult EU citizens from the 27 member states can vote, but the actual possibility may be restricted by residency and national laws. Voting age varies, and some countries have compulsory voting.
A total of 720 members, MEPs, will be elected to the European Parliament based on countries' populations. Different countries have varying numbers of MEPs based on their population size.
