The UK government has revealed that importers of animal products from the EU will pay 29 per type of item such as an individual pack of cheese or sausage.
William Bain of the British Chambers of Commerce expressed disappointment and concern over the impact of the new fees on businesses and consumers.
Phil Pluck from the Cold Chain Federation highlighted that the import charges would lead to increased business costs and food prices, affecting consumer choices.
The additional costs of border checks and certification requirements could add 330m a year to business costs, particularly impacting smaller businesses importing specialist products.
